(Ballota nigra, 50% alcohol/vol).
5-20 drops up to 3 times a day in a little water or juice. Has been used for nausea, motion sickness, arthritis, gout, bronchial complaints, nervous disorders related to sleep, parasitic worms, and stomach spasms; has been known to revive lungs from smoking and environmental toxins; used as mild expectorant and mild sedative; the bitterness stimulates secretion by salivary glands and digestive organs, particularly bile from the gall bladder; has been used to normalizes menstruation; and has some antioxidant and antibiotic properties. A patent from1994 & 1995 used black horehound extract to prepare a topical cosmetic composition to promote skin pigmentation, treat pigment disorders and to prevent buildup of body fat such as cellulite.*
